Biodiversity and Me Hikes with Ontario Power Generation

In celebration of the International Year of Biodiversity, Ontario Power Generation has partnered with the Bruce Trail Conservancy to provide a “Biodiversity and Me” program for members and non-members.

“Biodiversity and Me” is an exciting, interpretive opportunity for families and individuals to explore the Bruce Trail and discover the tremendous variety and complexity of life on our Niagara Escarpment. Through guided hikes, interpretive signs, and activity booklets hikers will explore the Escarpment’s biodiversity and what we can all do to preserve it.

Guided hikes with volunteer and staff ecologists are being planned for Sunday September 12 & 26, and for Bruce Trail Day, October 3.

Boyne Valley School Property For Sale

Boyne Valley Property

The Boyne River Natural Science School has hosted almost 3 Km of the Bruce Trail for the past 40 years since the Trail’s inception!

They have agreed to sell 100 acres containing the Trail to the BTC!
The purchase agreement is contingent on fundraising by July 30, 2010. If we can’t acquire the School property, and it is sold, we could lose a major route through the Boyne Valley Corridor, and the Trail would have to go onto the busy concession roads.
Today’s economic times are not a good time for fundraising, but we have no choice!

This is the first time in 40 years that the local Dufferin Hi-Land Club has had to undertake fundraising itself. However the purchase of part of the Boyne Valley School is critical to having a Trail in the Boyne Valley Corridor. Please be generous when the appeal comes from the Bruce Trail Conservancy.

UPDATE: Boyne River School Property, August 24, 2010

We have now purchased the property on August 5.
But we still need your help.  We have $89,000 to raise before the closing date to avoid having to bridge finance the project.
Please make your donation to this fantastic property today. Click on link here.

Help Secure The Boyne Valley Hiking and Conservation Corridor in Perpetuity

KEEN’s Boots Give Back campaign – an easy and fun way to raise money for the Bruce Trail Conservancy.

Hikers have already raised $6095 for the Bruce Trail Conservancy through this year’s program If we can get the word out on each hike between now and October 31, then we can meet or exceed the nearly $60,000 raised in last year Boots Across Canada campaign.
There are three other organizations that are part of the campaign this year – so we have our work cut out for us.
The campaign ends October 31, 2010

How does Boots Give Back work?

* Next time you’re out on the trail, snap a photo of your boots.
* Get your friends and hiking partners to do the same.
* Upload those photos to www.keencanada.ca
* KEEN will donate $5 (for each pair of boots) to the organization that you choose.
* PLUS...you’ll have the chance to WIN FREE GEAR through monthly draws
